Petition to amend the Civil Partnership Act

Changing Attitude England is supporting the petition on the 10 Downing Street web site submitted by Andrew Falconer.

The petition seeks to Amend the Civil Partnership Act 2004 to allow faith groups to perform civil partnerships within their religious buildings.

Currently civil partnerships are not permissible in religious buildings or buildings used primarily for religious purposes. Some faith groups (for instance, many Quakers) are open to civil partnerships but are unable to perform legal partnership ceremonies under the current restrictions.

Changing Attitude England’s goals is the equality of opportunity to LGBT people on the Church of England including the blessing of same-sex relationships in church.

The on-line petition asks for the churches to have the freedom to decide for themselves. Nearly 600 have signed so far. We encourage you to add your signature now.
