Changing Attitude launches petition to allow priests to bless civil partnerships in church

Changing Attitude has today launched a petition to persuade the Church of England House of Bishops and General Synod to permit civil partnerships in church.

We are asking General Synod to allow churches to register civil partnerships and the House of Bishops to give clergy the freedom to register civil partnerships followed by a service of prayer and dedication.

Please sign the petition NOW! and retweet it with #supportLondonclergyletter hashtag.

The letter from 120 London clergy and today’s announcement of support for gay marriage by the Bishop of Salisbury, a dramatic corner has been turned. Now is the time to campaign for our goals, the blessing of gay relationships and equality in ministry.

We are going to need to raise more resources for our campaign this year. If you are not already, please become a supporter or make a donation.

Not only off to a good start, but some really heartfelt comments, including dozens from clergy who would also like to register and bless civil partnerships: some from people who want to express their faith and commitment to each other – some for whom it’s now too late because they have left the church after decades of difficulty, or because their life partner has died. All sorts of stories! Thank you all very much for signing and telling us about yourselves – and do please pass this on.
