My packing’s nearly complete but I thought it might be a good idea to list the three trans-specific resolutions at General Convention 2012 before I go:
1) D002: “Affirming Access to the Ordination Process” (sponsored by Sarah Lawton, Byron Rushing, and Carla Robinson) would add “gender identity and expression” to the canon on access to the ordination process.
2) D019: “Amend Canon I.17.5 – Extending the Rights of Laity” (sponsored by Byron Rushing, Sarah Lawton, and Carla Robinson) would add “gender identity and expression” to the canon on the access of the laity to all levels of church participation and representation.
3) D022: “Churchwide Response to Bullying” (sponsored by Sam Gould of the Diocese of Massachusetts and a number of others) would call on the church to equip its members to combat bullying on the basis of a number of demographic categories, including sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression.
I posted about number one yesterday; number two reminds us that the Episcopal Church is serious about the ministry of the laity; and number three seeks to address a current cause of concern (which is just as prevalent in the UK).
The TransEpiscopal delegation, of which I’ll be part, will, for the first time, have its own booth, next to Integrity’s, and be making several daily communications from the Convention, primarily on Facebook, Twitter, the TransEpiscopal blog. Technology permitting, I will be doing the same including postings on this blog.
